HANUKKAH & PURIM

Stained Glass Window

#6 - (size: 21 x 115")
HANUKKAH & PURIM
Celebrating Freedom

To the left of the Havdallah window continues the sequence of some of the Jewish holidays celebrated throughout the year. During Hanukkah, the winter Festival of Lights, a Hanukkiah (9 candle branch menorah - candelabra) and a dreidle (spinning top) are used to remind us of an historical event when a "miracle" occured. The holy Temple's oil lasted eight days instead of just one.

Usually in the month of March, the holiday of Purim occurs with its festive costumes, parades, and the reading of the megillah, a special scroll that tells the story of Queen Esther. Traditional food associated with Purim is the three cornered Hamantashen cookie.
