New Trees
11 x14" collage: ephemera stamps, gouache, paper cutouts, liquid watercolor, cotton curtain fabric - 2007
A richly textured collage expressing a contemporary ritual to celebrate new trees

After getting off the plane on a family trip to Israel with our children in 1979, we planted a tree. Each year on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat, when the first almond trees blossom in Israel, Jewish people are still planting trees or working on projects to enhance the land. This winter holiday translates into a modern day environmental Arbor Day celebration.
