PURIM
11 x14" collage: pastel, gouache, paper cutouts, fabric, ephemera stamps-2007
A richly textured collage expressing contemporary ritual celebrations for Purim

My mother enjoyed creating costumes for me and some of my friends for the annual Purim parade at our synagogue in Rockville Centre, New York. We all loved the triangular shaped cookies called Hamantashen, filled with sticky poppy seeds or prune jam. Noisy groggers drowned out Haman's name when the Story of Esther was read during this festive holiday.
