Shehechehanu
Sukkah Banner, 22x44", 2009

The popular Shehecheyanu blessing, recited by Jews for over 2000 years, gives thanks to the Almighty when experiencing a first time happening such as lighting the first Hanukkah candle, putting a Mezuzah on a new home’s door or as depicted in this artwork, a family carrying out the Mitzvah (commandment) to sit in their Sukkah. One translation example reads, Blessed are You, Lord our G-d, King of the world, Who has kept us in life, sustained us, and brought us to this moment.
