New Moon
pastel and gouache, (22 x 29") 2000

Original art - price on request.
In Jewish folklore and tradition, the moon takes on a feminine quality, perhaps for its monthly cycle of waning and waxing, as well as the concept of birth, where from darkness comes light and life. Because the moon is not static, but instead changes each day, it reminds us of its cycle of growth and hope after once being so small and almost insignificant. Each month, at the beginning of the new moon cycle, special prayers are recited. This monthly Jewish holiday is called Rosh Hodesh.
