Bar Mitzvah calendar
One of five in a Jewish Life-Cycle "Calendar" series of colorful folk art marker pen drawings, 11x14", 1992

Bar Mitzvah literally translates "son of the commandments". In the Jewish tradition, a boy's age of 13 plus one day notes the passage from childhood to adulthood, when he can assume the responsibilities of the mitzvot (good deeds) in Torah. The artwork is a visual calendar, starting in the left hand corner with the reading of the siddur (prayer book) in preparation for the boy becoming a Bar Mitzvah. The wording on the bottom of the drawing, "M'Dor L'Dor", translated from Hebrew into English as "from generation to generation"signifies the importance of parents transferring learning to their children.
A complimentary printed text entitled "From the Artist's View" will accompany each drawing sold in the Jewish Life Cycle "Calendar" series. To personalize the drawing, contact the artist.
