queen
paper cutout, pastel, gouache collage (11x14"), 1997

For her rules, the Shabbat (Hebrew for Sabbath) is often symbolized as a queen for her rules as well as a bride for her beauty. When creating this particular artwork, Rosefsky abandoned the traditional white for the theme, and instead selected the vibrant primary color of red to denote the feminine intensity associated with the beginning of Shabbat.
