Skhakh
Ephemera collage on vinyl wallpaper- 3x4', 2004

Selected for the Jewish Women Artists Network national exhibition at The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta in 2005 and was also selected as one of five sukkah banners for the Brandeis University Women's Sukkah Project, 2004.
SKHAKH, originally created to decorate a sukkah, used ephemera
for the collage, which included recycled papers such as handwritten notes
from my 98 year old father-in-law, discarded photographs, relevant newspaper
clippings, as well as personal items from my studio's storage boxes.
Recycling fulfills an important "Tikkun Olam" concept - to
preserve our environment. The vulnerability and temporary nature of the world
we live in, symbolized by selected collage items, impels us to live each
day more fully while enacting deeds of loving kindness.
Note: The Hebrew word Skhakh is the natural material that makes up the unique
partly open roof of a Sukkah (temporary dwelling) during the fall Festival of
Sukkot which commemorates The Exodus. Traditionally Skhakh is often corn stalks,
bamboo, or tree branches.
