Let there be light
matelasse pillow sham, assorted plastic and textile trim, fabric and paper cutouts 29x24” 2007
Femmage –– a type of collage that includes textile art, traditionally produced by women.
An innovative use of a found pillow sham as the support for the femmage where remnants from textiles, including recycled women’s clothing, become part of the work.

According to many scientists, the beginning of our universe was created billions of years ago. In a more literary and metaphorical sense, according to the sacred text of Torah, we are led to believe that the beginning of our world came about with the story of creation. On the first “day” God created light from a severe and totally black void.. The text reads that God said Let there be light. The mixed media textile uses various textured fabric, trim and paper cutouts to reflect the random composition of the world’s beginning in white light.
