COST OF WAR ART SHOW OPENS THIS FRIDAY

BINGHAMTON – The Broome County Cost of War Awareness Project is pleased to announce the opening of the Cost of War Art Show this Friday, June 4, in Binghamton City Hall Gallery. The opening reception, from 6-9 pm, will include a drumming performance by Rose Husted and Expressive Drumming, poetry readings, and a presentation about International Artists for Peace and World Harmony, based in Harlem, NY.  The Opening Reception will also provide an opportunity for everyone attending the show to record their views by drawing/writing their contributions on a participatory mural which will become a part of the exhibit.

The purpose of the Cost of War Art Show is to provide an opportunity for a variety of artists to speak out on their interpretation of the Cost of War. The Call for Artists invited individuals to interpret the theme the “Cost of War’ in their own way.  The show was not juried; all interested artists were welcome to participate.  Response has been significant; the show will include work from California, Maine, Georgia, and Pennsylvania in addition to some fine local and regional artists.  The artists presenting their work in this show are hopeful that this exhibit will help to spark discussion on whether we can afford the cost of war.

The show, which will remain up through July 30, will also feature the “Cost of War” sign. The Cost of War art show, sponsored by the Broome County Cost of War Awareness Project, is part of the group’s ongoing effort to raise awareness about the many tragic costs of war.

The gallery is open daily Monday through Friday 8 am - 4 pm.
